An Excellent Guide for Laypeople in the World

Highly recommended as a spiritual guide for laypeople. Although this small book was written over a century and a half ago, and therefore does not deal with some matters that moderns in the world might have to contend with, nevertheless, it provides sound counsel, simultaneously exalted and practical. It is the kind of book which one might read through a first time to get an idea what is in it and then read again multiple times more slowly and contemplatively in order to absorb the teachings to consider how one might put them into practice in one's own daily life. Physically, the book is nicely printed and bound and is small enough that it could fit into a coat pocket or purse for easy carrying.

It starts off with the basics, and brings to mind how we have to behave ourselves; it calls to mind how we are weak in our fallen nature, and only inspires me to work ever harder in my repentance.
